A great hotel for family esp. with young children. Staff very professional and helpful.
I thought it a bit ridiculous that they were looking for you to pay £19.95 for a basic TV reception in your room. I understand internet services should be an additional cost but basic TV reception should be included in the price of your room. Other than that, hotel was fine.
Facilities in general were very good. Room outlook dismal, but satisfactory for short stop-over.No fault of the hotel, but sleep was disturbed both nights by late night revellers and door banging.
excellant hotel was really impressed with the staff especially lady on the desk. food was really enjoyable and plenty of it.. would definitely stay there again.
With the hotels central position, which was good, means there is a lot of outside noise. This is not just traffic but people returning along princes street from nightclubs at 2.30.a.m. quite noisily. The hotel itself was excellent and the staff very courteous and helpful and the food was very good value.
On our recent weekend stay we thought that the hotel was in a prime location, staff very helpfull and friendly, food was of a high standard and would not hesitate to stay at the Mount Royal again and would recommend to friends.
Breakfast was v good great start to the day. The waitress with the bounce in her step truly made a lovely breakfast experience always checking that everything was suitable. Very helpful and friendly staff. Would certainately come back
Lovely hotel and room. Welcoming.
hotel was idealy situated - the booking mess up (only one double room was available) Not ideal for a married couple have to make do with two single rooms
Hotel was comfortable , staff ok, when settled in to room, went down to bar for a drink, the moment we sat down a girl came round some tables and plonked a reserved sign on the table. How rude didnt explain why or ask us to move seats. Not my fault that they had organised a xmas party that night and needed tables to set up , we had just paid for rather expensive drinks and were left with no where to sit. This was a birthday treat for me from my husband, and i was very disappointed at the lack of manners from some of the staff.Although on a high old lady at breakfast was a delight, so lovely and helpfull. they dont make them like that anymore.Room very stuffy and hot, even though we did not have the heating on.
REALLY ENJOYED OUR STAY AT THE MOUNT ROYAL HOTEL, WILL DEFINATELY STAY AT HOTEL NEXT TIME WE`RE IN EDINBURGH. REALLY EXCELLENT BREAKFAST.
This hotel is in a great central location to shops bars and restaurants. Hotel rooms are quite small but clean. Large dinning area with views of the castle. Breakfast buffet was nice and stays open until 12noon. Friendly hotel which I deffinatley return to.
Superb central location. Staff very helpful and polite. Nice views from room and lounge.
A perfect choice for our trip -on the weekend of the Edinburgh Marathon. Also the service, reception , bar and restaurent were without fault. Very fair pricing too.Thoroughly recommended!
Having booked two twin rooms for one night reception at check in only acknowledged a booking for one twin room. Sharing the booking reference information and print out resulted in acceptance of the error and in the absence of a second twin room, two singles were offered at no extra cost. On further discusion, it appears that there may have been a transposition of two twin rooms for one night to one twin room for two nights. overall this was a little disconcerting and could have been a significant problem if other rooms were not available.
Two non-smoking rooms booked. One was on a whole floor of smoking rooms & smelt strongly of smoke. Small and v cramped. Other was non-smoking, large and pleasant but bed was v uncomfortable. Visible bruises next morning from springs. Staff were obliging & room was switched but new room was small and cramped. Decor dated & generally grubby. Breakfast poor - cooked breakfast not ready for start of service; menus giving details of hot food to order placed on tables as we finished breakfast; undercooked tomatoes, rubbery scrambled eggs, cold toast only cooked on 1 side. We`ll be going elsewhere next year (annual trip for rugby) & wont be recommending on the rugby forums.
We stayed for two nights and found the hotel to be very comfortable and in an excellent location for getting around Edinburgh. The staff were extremely hepful and pleasant. Breakfast was very nice with plenty of choice to suit all. There was only one lift working which meant we sometimes had to wait for it to arrive.
bar closed to early.... dont think I would come back which is a shame as it was in a great location , but the room really was one off the worst ...small and gloomy with a shower that steamed up like a turkish bath...all the staff were very very good though.thankyou
we enjoyed every aspect of our stay. the food was very nice. everything was there for us to choose from for the breakfast. the staff were particulary pleasant and helpful.
Hotel was 1st class, room spacious with excellent views of the castle, staff were very helpful and breakfast was amazing with plenty of choices, will definately be returning and would highly recommend it.
I found the stay to be very relaxing. the accomodation was very good and the breakfast facilities were great. The only negative was the inconvenient parking, wouldn`t hesitate to return. What deals are you doing for over New Year?
Good apart from that.
Disturbed by noise outside hotel at 05.00 hours by people delivering or picking up or emptying bins, talking loudly (heard from the third level). For £126 I was disturbed by people talking in the next room. Nice view from window and excellent breakfast!
HOTEL ROOMS VERY DARK. 2 TOOK ATTEMPTS ON CHECK IN TO GET A ROOM KEY THAT WORKED. DIDN`T GET MORNING ALARM CALL.
The hotel was good but it was covered in scaffolding during our stay so any views were severely limited. Staff very helpful.
The hotel, staff, location, breakfast and view of The Castle were are superb, the staff especially. The breakfastroom staff were the best I,ve ever met. Top notch in every way
I was quickly moved out of the first room as it was smoking and I had wanted a non smoking one. I was fortunate to be moved into a double room, although I`d booked a single. ( A smell of smoke seemed to get into the bathroom.) I loved the view across to the castle and was surprised that there was not more noise from Princes Street on Friday and Saturday nights.
Had a lovely stay in this hotel room was pleasant and roomy, food in hotel was very nice aswell would visit this hotel again.
Hotel was smart and clean. The breakfast and service in the restaurant was excellent. The view and location in Edinburgh was perfect for sight-seeing and arriving by train. Only disappointment was the room we stayed in. The bathroom smelt absolutely horrendous all weekend and was probably due to the poor drainage of the shower system. There was no hot water at the bathroom sink either. Not major problems but have definately been in better bathrooms that have costed a lot less.
Should you have any forthcoming deals, notification would be most appreciated
There were a few minor problems on the Friday regarding booking in - system was down but staff offered apologies. It would have been handy if there had been a fridge in the room. It was worth upgrading to Castle View room. Would use the hotel again.
The hotel was in a great location, on Princes Street with views to Edinburgh Castle. The rooms were stuffy and well, a bit smelly (no air con).
